Mother’s Day 2018

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope everyone’s mums enjoyed their Mother’s Day on Sunday. (UK)

Sunday was a day well spent for us 3. We very rarely manage to have a sit down meal together with everyone’s busy days and overlapping shifts at work.

My mum made us the best Lamb Roast I’ve ever had. It was so gorgeous, it may as well of been an all you can eat Roast. 10 out of 10.

We had the most gorgeous sparkling wine from Aldi with it.

I had been extremely busy all week making mother’s day cupcakes I hadn’t even had time to make my own mother some!

We spent the afternoon with the rest of the family eating cake and sipping cups of tea.

I treated my mum and grandma to a trip to the theatre in a couple of weeks to see “My Fair Lady”

They’re both excited to watch it!

SURPRISE 50TH

I decided to plan my work colleague a surprise birthday meal for her 50th birthday.

I spent the past 5 weeks planning and organising the night. This included planning a cake and running round getting decorations.

Keeping it a secret was such a hard task, especially when she was moaning about wanting cake on her actual birthday!

I provided a decoy on her birthday with these cupcakes, she didn’t moan!

I booked a table of 11 at a restaurant close to us, The Boatyard. Its a fairly new restaurant, but exceeded expectations.

Lovely homemade food!

Everyone was so excited to see the cake I had made. When they brought it out her face was a picture!

We all had a lovely night! And I’m so glad it went to plan!!

Hope you enjoyed the read! Thanks for reading!

Curry and Cocktails

So I’ve had writers block since my last post although I have a secret hidden, I cannot reveal it at this time. (I’m not pregnant though)

I have been going out for lunch and tea quite a lot recently, so this post, be warned, it’s a foodie post.

I had a nice day out with my mum at a few garden centres and we had lunch out very late in the day.

We stopped off at Minshulls in Crewe for some lunch.

I had ‘the works’ breakfast and my mum had cheese and pepper quiche with chips. It doesn’t look satisfying on the plate, but I tried a bit and it was gorgeous!

Look at the size of that doorstop toast!

Last Sunday, I had a lazy day and then washed my car with Jay. He soaked me, so we went to Costa for a Hot Chocolate to warm up. The weather wasn’t too good either.

On Thursday night, I went out for tea with a work collegue. We had a curry and some cocktails. I had a Chicken tikka as usual. So yummy! But I SO needed that curry!

I’ve been baking a couple of big cakes these past two weeks. So I will share those with you. The owl was for my old friend and the Lemon Meringue for my work colleagues.

Thanks for reading guys!

Alzheimers – Cake Sale

On June 16th I held a cake sale in aid of Alzheimers society. If you have been following me for a year already you’d know that I also did one in 2016.

In 2016 I raised £62 through selling Cupcakes at work. I find that it’s harder to sell outside of work as people think you pester them.

This year I decided to make large cakes and sell a piece at a time. A lot of the men love cake so they managed to get rid of it haha. Usually there would be a lot more staff in but on that day there wasn’t.

I created a game for everyone to join in for 50p a go. It was a hit! The game was called “guess how many sprinkles” and I picked a number at random. Everyone had their guesses and I announced the winner the following Monday.

Below are the cakes etc. that I created for the bake sale.

Lemon Meringue Cupcakes

Caramel Rolo Brownies

Victoria Sponge

Malibu Cake

Chocolate Orange Cake
The majority of the cakes went like a flash, leaving me with several pieces left which I sold to my nan and my boyfriend haha.

After adding up how much I raised I got a grand total of £170.81!! I’m so proud of this amount and grateful to everyone who donated. I totally smashed last year’s amount!

Thank you for reading guys!

I hope you enjoyed this post.. Please comment below if there are any charities you support!

I Believe in Unicorns.. 🦄

Hey Everyone!

I’ve been having a magical time making my favourite cake to date. Its the number one trend of 2016/17 and I’ve finally been able to make one.

It was my sisters birthday last week, so on Saturday I had to have a cake ready for when family came round.

I spent hours baking the cakes and letting them cool before stacking and filling them with Strawberry Buttercream and some Strawberry Jam.

I used vanilla Buttercream on the outside to cover the cake and the Unicorn hair is also vanilla just coloured. I always use a gel or a paste, as the colours are much much brighter and I always reach the perfect shades. I also used my Violet paste to make the inside purple. I attempted an ombre and came out perfectly.

It took me a couple of hours to create the horn and pipe the flowers for the Unicorn mane. I used a yellow icing for the horn, which I twisted to create the shape. I use yellow because my gold glitter spray comes out a lot nicer on top of yellow than white. I added edible glitter to the horn and stuck it into the cake using long cocktail sticks/kebab skewers.

I also bought some little icing flowers from tesco which had shades of pinks, purple and blue. I didn’t use the purple as it was more maroon/burgundy which was too dark for the flowers I piped.

I had so much fun doing this cake, as I’m not the best at Buttercream coated cakes and piping. I’m really proud of my result! And even more so that my ombre purple turned out spot on.

Below, I bought my sister a few simple, low priced birthday gifts, as the cake cost me a lot.

For a fun idea, I went on the website www.boomf.com and made a pop up gift. I chose photos of us from times we’ve spent together at concerts etc. You can add your own message to these too. The box jumps out and throws confetti everywhere. They do other gifts including marshmallows. This was £5.99, slightly expensive for a paper box what throws confetti everywhere but worth the reaction (which I never even saw!!)

I bought the Unicorn Bath Bomb from www.bombcosmetics.co.uk which is called ‘I believe in unicorns’. This was £2.50.

Oscars Coolers are available in most supermarkets but I actually bought this one in Aldi. I can’t remember how much for but as a gift it’s a cheap and awesome thing to give. Who doesn’t like alcohol?

I also bought her some Krispy Kreme doughnuts from Tesco for £5 and she practically ate them in one sitting.
Thanks for reading guys! Hope you enjoyed the read.

Have a magical day!

Bank Holiday – BBQ Birthday Celebrations

Hey Everyone!

So I said there would be another post about a birthday celebration this weekend and here it is!

As requested, I made Jay’s dad a black forest cake for his birthday.

I layered 3 chocolate cakes (2 cakes cut in half and one half not used). The bottom layer filled with Chocolate Buttercream. The middle layer filled with black cherry and whipped cream. And the top of the cake was again, black cherry and whipped cream, sprinkles with Chocolate curls.

We had a bbq for his dad yesterday, had so much fun running around with my niece and dancing to the music.

On Saturday we bought him some fish for his pond. I fell in love with a beautiful butterfly carp which was grey and silver. 2 metallic carps one of them white and the other golden. And we also bought a grass carp which was dark grey.

Just a little post but hope you like it!

Easter!

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great, long easter weekend.

What did everyone get up to?

Easter is probably my favourite holiday with all the pretty flowers and baby animals around! The sun starts to perk up a bit and makes you feel more energised.

I’ve spent most of the holiday baking and eating. My mum and nan flew over to Germany to the rest of my family, while I stayed here with Jay.

I tried to decorate the house as much a possible but eventually it was only one or two things with being busy baking. I added some colour by buying some tulips.

You can’t not have any tulips at easter.

On Friday I spent most of the day baking and washing clothes. We had a chilled day and then went out for a curry! My favourite food. I always go for Chicken Tikka Masala because the flavours are amazing!

Saturday morning I spent the day baking again! It was a lovely morning so I decided go take a break and have some hot cross buns out in the garden.

I had run a cupcake giveaway on my Facebook page for easter and drew the winner on the Friday. The winner was my old best friend and she absolutely loved the cakes.

They were all different flavours;

Vanilla, White chocolate and Raspberry, Strawberry and vanilla, chocolate Fudge, Malteser and Carrot Cake.

I made a Carrot Cake loaf (no picture) to take to my aunties on the Sunday which was decorated with Cream Cheese Frosting and daisies.

I attempted to make a Malteser cake until I forgot to add malt flavouring to the icing! It was just a quick an easy cake to make so I gave most of it out to family and friends.

There was an awful lot of cake I made so I took a few in to work so I didn’t become a pig haha.

Easter is my fave time to make cakes because of all the bright colours.

I bought my nieces some easter chocolate from Aldi for easter and took them round to Jay’s mums for them. How cute are they?!

On the Sunday, me and Jay went to my aunties for dinner. I didn’t manage to take any pictures, sorry!

We had a homemade minestrone soup with garlic bread to start. For the main we had a turkey joint with veg and toasties. Then for the dessert we had white chocolate and passionfruit ice-cream.

A while later we watched part of the grand prix and had some Carrot Cake and then went home about half 4.

Again, on Monday I didn’t take any pictures apart from a selfie. Oops. But we went to the Legs of Man to celebrate my sister getting a new job. We ate in the restaurant, which is quiet, but a nice atmosphere.

The Legs of Man is a lovely restaurant, perfect for special occasions as it’s slightly higher in price and more ‘posh’. You order your mains and when they are served the waiters bring round the potatoes and veg. Then you choose what you want and how much.

We had a 3 course meal, so for starter I had a melon platter. There was mixed fruit around a melon fan.

Me and Jay had a Chicken Romany. Chicken stuffed with cheese and ham, covered in a mushroom and pepper sauce.

For dessert I had a tiramasu and Jay had a Chocolate Fudge cake. There is usually a trolly in the corner of the room that they have displayed with all the desserts on.

So my whole Easter weekend was spent eating like a pig haha!

After Easter was finished, I finally had a bit of chocolate.

Cheaper than egg and spoons by cadbury’s and Aldi has just as nice chocolate!

I also bought myself an egg from there that I still haven’t eaten. Its just too pretty!

Hope you all had a good easter weekend! And everyone indulged in yummy chocolate.

Thanks for reading.

What I Ate – Pancake Day

Shrove Tuesday is one of many days where I like to dulge in Nutella. My gosh this is a heaven send.

Toast? Nutella. Croissant? Nutella. Pancakes? NUTELLA!!!

I have a tradition of going to my grandma’s on shrove Tuesday. I can’t beat her pancakes!

I can’t really eat many of them and don’t like feeling sick on over eating something so sweet so she made us (me and my sister) some tea when we got there.

I always like my pancakes with Nutella and strawberries but when o got to tesco there were none left! I still took my 1kg jar of Nutella though.

My sister always has either lemon and sugar or just with syrup.

This is what I Ate.

Hope everyone enjoyed pancake Day!

Frantic February

Hi Everyone!

We’re finally out of January! Yes, I know I’m a bit late but these past 2 weeks have been hectic for me! I’ve kept pushing my blog back after being so exhausted from big Bakes and being very busy in my full time job.

Last week I had a challenge of making a two Tier Marvel Cake for somebody. I had an absolute nightmare!

The cake was chocolate tier and vanilla Sponge tier.

Baking it was fine, but as you may know I absolutely HATE royal icing!! I always manage to do it though.

At first, I covered the bottom cake with white icing. That was easy. Then I went to cover the top cake in the blue icing. The first time I covered it the icing ripped and had a huge hole in the back of it. Great. So.. then I did it again with a new pack of blue icing. Same thing happened again! I always use renshaw icing as the colours are prefect. But for the 3rd go I used tesco own new blue icing. It was manageable but still not perfect.

So then I began decorating over the top. I had to include superman, captain America, spiderman and batman. I found it really tricky using a stencil to cut out little tiny pieces from the superman logo. But I managed it. This cake again, was another one I had never done before.

Trying to measure and cut the right size logo for the cake was hard too! I needed everything to be as symmetrical as possible.

I wasn’t 100% happy with the cake but for my first attempt I think I’ve done pretty well.

I started making cakes for other people because I like seeing other people’s faces when I’m done. Some people you get who don’t really appreciate your time and effort to which knocks your confidence! But I have quite a few people who compliment me for my cakes and that’s what picks me back up again!

Today I have just finished off 40 Cupcakes (my biggest job yet) for a lovely customers mum. Its their salons 1st anniversary of opening this weekend. My pictures aren’t the best as I have finished them today.

The little hairdressing Toppers were quite difficult even though I used a mould. Some of them had really thin parts which just kept braking off so I used the ones which kept the best shape.

The Cupcakes were 2 flavours. Vanilla and Chocolate Fudge. 20 of each.

I hope you liked my post!

It’s time for me to chill out ready for overtime tomorrow! Boo
Thanks for reading everyone! Have a great weekend.

Busy Bakes

So I’ve promised I’d do more blogs and I’ve broken it already!!

I have literally had no spare time in-between Christmas and new year. All of my time had been spent doing baking and spending time with family.

So here’s a few Bakes I’ve done through these past few weeks. I have been experimenting with different flavours and I had a request of my friend to have malibu Cupcakes for her birthday!

I was so keen to try this out so I made her some successful Cupcakes. She also wanted jammy dodger ones too.

I’m not really into malibu myself and I never get the urge to eat cake when o bake for people, but, I tried these malibu ones and MY GOD!! They are so amazing! I cannot get enough. Any malibu lovers out there you won’t be able to stop!

I then made some more for her as a birthday present to her Mother-in-law. I then added extra desicated coconut to the top of hers so they were slightly different.

I have also had a last minute 21st birthday cake to do as well. This was just last week too. The girls mother had wanted a last minute 2 tier cake doing as her daughters friend was going to bake one but her oven broke. I stepped in and helped as I personally wouldn’t like to have no cake on my birthday.

The cake isn’t perfect I know, but I absolutely HATE fondant icing!! I’m slowly getting better with bigger cakes now and I seriously love a challenge!

The most important thing is that the customer said it was amazing and all her friends asked at the party who made it.

I’ve also made dinosaur Cupcakes for my friends step daughter. This was a disaster and I can’t stress it enough! The worst colouring I have ever used is green! I despise the stuff now!

The green colouring made my icing so runny, but it felt like it was pipeable. It struggled to stay in the shape I piped so I let it mould to a flat surface and stuck the dinosaur moulds of icing in. I woke up the next morning to the green icing pouring off the Cupcakes and into the box. Disaster!

So, I’m never using it again! I managed to get a picture of them before the green ones were completely ruined. On the plus side my friends 14 year old step daughter absolutely loved them!

I thought by January that all the cakes would die down but it’s managed to puck itself up again and I’ve been baking every week since the beginning of December.

I’ve got a big order of 40 Cupcakes to do for a salons 1st anniversary in the beginning of February. All of these need a hairdressing theme. Eek!!

Best get my bake on!
