NYC | Travel Blog

I never thought my little legs could carry me so far, the endless walking around New York is pretty knackering.

I spent a whole week wandering the streets of New York City, celebrating my sisters 21st birthday.

This was my first time in NYC and I have completed the list of attractions!

DAY ONE

Stopped off at a little café before heading out to explore. This grilled cheese was amazing!

Hopped on a bus tour, to see some sites. The weather was absolutely scorching!

We jumped off the bus and headed for the Highline. An elevated old rail road, now turned into a garden. The Highline is approximately 3.5km.

DAY TWO

“Happy 21st Birthday!”

We had a relaxing day on my sisters 21st and headed to a roof top bar for some cocktails. Beautiful view of the Empire State whilst in the sun.

DAY THREE

We headed out early to visit the Beautiful Grand Central Station. I have never seen anything quite like it before! So much detail and beauty.

We hopped on the bus to visit the Metropolitan Museum and Central Park. We later visited the Natural History Museum before heading back to our hotel for a few hours.

In the evening we attended a baseball game, a one in a lifetime experience! We absolutely loved it.

DAY FOUR

Roosevelt Island. It was very interesting to go over to the island. They had an old Mental Asylum, an overgrown small pox hospital and their own little town. The only way you can get on and off the island is the cable car or boat.

Later that evening, back in Manhattan, we headed to the Rockerfeller Centre to take a view of the city skyline.

Stunning!

DAY FIVE

We took a boat out to see the Statue Of Liberty. Unfortunately we couldn’t get off but the view was still so amazing!

In the afternoon we took the bus back round the city, towards the 9/11 memorial.

I’d highly recommend visiting the area of 9/11, you really don’t understand how big of an area it has affected. We walked around the block and learnt so much from a man who polishes the fight fighter tribute daily.

We will never forget all the men women and babies who lost their lives on that day.

DAY SIX

My sister booked a random treat called ‘Crystal Methadonuts’ if you know breaking bad you’ll understand!

We visited the Friends Apartment and then walked back on ourselves before taking a yellow cab over to Brooklyn, because who goes to NYC without taking a cab ride!

DUMBO – Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass

Later that evening I had booked a night out for us at the theatre, you just cannot go to Broadway if you’re in New York!

Anastasia is my favourite Disney film of all time and there’s nothing better than being able to see something that will not be in the UK for many years!

DAY SEVEN

Total chill day, $1 pizzas for lunch and then headed to the Airport to go home.

We had an amazing time! Have you ever been to NYC?!

Autumn Date Night Ideas

Crisp, colourful leaves, rainy weather, Halloween and Cosy Knits. Autumn is my favourite time of year!

Here’s some idea’s for dates with your partner!

  • Drive somewhere secluded, take some blankets and stargaze
  • Gather some wood and create a fire. Toast some Marshmallows or make some smores!
  • Grab some popcorn and stick a movie on while the rain is pouring outside.
  • Pumpkin carving
  • Visit a haunted house
  • Bake cookies
  • A simple autumn walk amongst all the fallen leaves

CHEESE FEST

@cheesefestuk held a festival for cheese lovers like myself in Liverpool this weekend.

This was such a great idea to get myself out the house to do something different.

I took my mum with me and we really enjoyed the time spent.

VIP PASS – £22

We could get ourselves some free halloumi fries or mozzarella sticks each. We got both!

We also got ourselves a free drink from the bar; prosecco and wine.

There were different stalls around selling cheese from different countries. Crazy cheese and unique cheese.

We tried many different cheeses as we wandered around. My favourite was the chilli and lime pictured below.

I’ve also never seen so many coloured cheeses.. Do any of these put you off?

There were stalls for nachos, burgers, grilled sandwiches, mac and cheese and pasta. My favourite is the melted cheese wheel where they pour it on your food.

There was even cheesecake! I had to try a piece of the mango one. Yummy!

The most Instagrammable cheese were these cheese bombs! Created as a gift originally for a friend who moved to Australia. All of the varieties she makes are amazing!

We had a great day out together, very rare that we have time to go out.

Chester Zoo – Lanterns at Christmas

On Sunday 10th December we booked to go and see the lanterns at Chester Zoo.

The weather was snowy and I had to drive through the heavy snow for a good half hour. This was first time I’d driven in snow and I almost had a panic attack because I couldn’t see anything.

We eventually got there safely and wandered around the gift shop to keep warm as it snowed.

At 6pm we took our little lantern and walked around Chester zoo to look for all the lanterns.

It was a cute little date night that I’d recommend to anyone who’d be interested next year!

Here are some photos we took..

Spice Up Your Life

On Friday I went on a girly night to see a tribute act for the spice girls.

Me and the girls had a few drinks and danced the night away. The tribute act were really good, especially with it being local.

Everyone there enjoyed it a lot and I’d definitely recommend it to all you who love a throwback. I was only 5 at the time, so some songs off their first album I didn’t know.

I was in my element dancing to the songs, we even tried to win a free bottle of bubbly. Clearly our dance moves were the best! But unfortunately we didn’t win it. Gutted!

We had that much fun we went in the pub next door to carry on.

STEPS

Saturday 18th November

I had such a lovely girly time in Liverpool on Saturday. We met up and checked out a few shops before heading for some cocktails and food.

We had a nosey at some of the Christmas markets and enjoyed a glass of prosecco.

It was very busy so we booked a table at Zizzi for a meal before the concert.

I had a meatball and pasta dish with 2 christmas cocktails: both a passontini.

We then danced our socks off to the Vengaboys and Steps. I tried to remember all the dance moves even though they started when I was 3 years old!

Such a good night!

Did any of you go and see Steps too?

Thanks for reading this short post!

Uptown Funk

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all having a lovely evening.

I went to Chester on Saturday so my other half could do his theory test. I thought I would do some holiday shopping whilst I was there.

The only part-successful shop I did was in Primark. I say part-successful because, I didnt actually buy anything holiday related. Not a single item.

I prefer the Primark in Liverpool and Warrington to Chester by miles as there is way more to choose from!

So, in Primark, I literally RAIDED the Harry Potter section.

I put quite a few bits back and just chose 2 sets of pyjamas and a top.

This is honestly, the BEST thing Primark have ever done.

I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!

There was so much to chose from. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, go and raid the stores!

I met back up with Jay with the good news that he passed his theory test and we headed for some food.

We came across this funky shop. Gino’s Gelato. You could not walk passed that without taking a double glance.

There’s nothing I love more than fresh, self made food. Especially, when the presentation is as good as this!

I had Gino’s Special Crepe – Strawberries, Bananas and Nutella.

How cool is it?!

We drove back home for me to get busy baking a GIANT jaffa cake. My Mother-in-law requested it for her birthday.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed reading what I was up to at the weekend.

If anyone would enjoy reading cake recipes please comment below and I will share my recipe for the Jaffa Cake above.

American Afternoon Tea

Recently I went to a local restaurant for afternoon tea with my friend. We were celebrating her 21st birthday so we thought we’d go for something a bit diffefent.

The Afternoon Tea included:

  • Dirty Fries
  • Mini Bbq Ribs
  • Fried Chicken
  • Cajun Corn on the Cob
  • Milkshake
  • Donuts
  • Waffles
  • Prosecco

This was £29.95 for the two of us. I was definitely stuffed, far too much meat for me to eat in one go.

I left the fries – thought it would be bacon and cheese, instead it was pulled pork and cheese. Pulled pork is a no go for me!

Im not one for eating off the bone, but the ribs were perfect! The meat just fell off the bone.

I had such a lovely saturday afternoon with my friend. She definitely had a great birthday!

Thanks for reading guys! Hope you’re all having a great bank holiday weekend so far!

Curry and Cocktails

So I’ve had writers block since my last post although I have a secret hidden, I cannot reveal it at this time. (I’m not pregnant though)

I have been going out for lunch and tea quite a lot recently, so this post, be warned, it’s a foodie post.

I had a nice day out with my mum at a few garden centres and we had lunch out very late in the day.

We stopped off at Minshulls in Crewe for some lunch.

I had ‘the works’ breakfast and my mum had cheese and pepper quiche with chips. It doesn’t look satisfying on the plate, but I tried a bit and it was gorgeous!

Look at the size of that doorstop toast!

Last Sunday, I had a lazy day and then washed my car with Jay. He soaked me, so we went to Costa for a Hot Chocolate to warm up. The weather wasn’t too good either.

On Thursday night, I went out for tea with a work collegue. We had a curry and some cocktails. I had a Chicken tikka as usual. So yummy! But I SO needed that curry!

I’ve been baking a couple of big cakes these past two weeks. So I will share those with you. The owl was for my old friend and the Lemon Meringue for my work colleagues.

A weekend in Amsterdam..

I’ve being planning to go to Amsterdam for almost 4 years now. So when Jay was 21 I decided to book it for us!

I’m usually one for luxury week holidays abroad, but Amsterdam has always takes my fancy, especially in spring! I just love the tulips.

Day One

We were a little delayed with flying, but managed to check in and unpack before heading out. We arrived early afternoon so we had plenty of time to explore and have something to eat. Not forgetting the drinks.

Our stay didn’t include breakfast so we went to a shop to get some juice to have when we woke up.

We wandered around to get our bearings and then got an early night ready for the next day.

Day Two

Up and our early on our second day to visit the famous Anne Frank House. We were about 15 minutes walk away from practically everything! It’s nice to have attractions apart but also yet so close together.

We had our early lunch at a small café. Jennifer’s café if I remember correctly. We had toasties and chips to share.

I booked our tickets for Anne Frank’s online as there can be queues up to 4 hours long. I really didn’t want to miss this opportunity and it’s one of the main reasons you come to Amsterdam.

The weather on this day was slightly rainy. I was so glad to get inside and the wind picked up a lot while we waited and queued. Photography is also prohibited inside.

I’d definitely recommend going to those who haven’t as it’s a very moving experience. It’s amazing the facts you learn inside.

We ended the experience with a drink in the café and talked about what we had seen. Yes, we didn’t talk to each other all the way round it! It ruins the atmosphere. I bought a souvenir from the shop to take back home with me, which was a postcard.
We walked up the main street, full of coffee shops for a few drinks and a smoke. I cannot resist a cocktail!

Later on we had some tea, pizza. Strolled back to our hotel and freshened up. We then went on a walk around at night.

Day Three

On Day Three we had a lie in and then headed to the Ice Bar. We stopped off at a café around the corner from it.

Again, I bought the tickets online as it’s much easier. You get 3 drinks included in the package and 20 mins inside the ice bar.

We then went inside the ice bar. They give you gloves and a jacket to wear, incase people don’t bring them.

I chose the ‘nutella’ shots and Jay obviously had the beers.

The ice bar definitely was a good experience. We had so much fun! You have to or you freeze to death haha.

After the ice bar, we explored more and headed towards the Van Gosh museum. There’s a few museum around here all of which are very busy!

We got to the ‘ I Amsterdam’ sign. Packed don’t of course so we tried to take the best pictures we could.

Vondelpark is 15 mins walk from here so we headed there on our way back to our hotel.

We had tea at the hard rock café. And headed back to our hotel for an early night.

Day Four

Home time. Check out was at 11am so we headed out for that time to grab a bite to eat for breakfast. Chocolate crossaints.

Our flight was at 5 so we got to the train station at 1pm to give us enough time.

If you plan to buy tickets to get to the airport, the outside machines only take coins! Slightly annoying!

Here is a few of my snaps from just wandering around dam!

I certainly loved Amsterdam!

Have you ever been? What was your favourite part?

Hope you all enjoyed reading my post! Let me know what you think below…
