SURPRISE 50TH

I decided to plan my work colleague a surprise birthday meal for her 50th birthday.

I spent the past 5 weeks planning and organising the night. This included planning a cake and running round getting decorations.

Keeping it a secret was such a hard task, especially when she was moaning about wanting cake on her actual birthday!

I provided a decoy on her birthday with these cupcakes, she didn’t moan!

I booked a table of 11 at a restaurant close to us, The Boatyard. Its a fairly new restaurant, but exceeded expectations.

Lovely homemade food!

Everyone was so excited to see the cake I had made. When they brought it out her face was a picture!

We all had a lovely night! And I’m so glad it went to plan!!

Hope you enjoyed the read! Thanks for reading!

I Believe in Unicorns.. ūü¶Ą

Hey Everyone!

I’ve been having a magical time making my favourite cake to date. Its the number one trend of 2016/17 and I’ve finally been able to make one.

It was my sisters birthday last week, so on Saturday I had to have a cake ready for when family came round.

I spent hours baking the cakes and letting them cool before stacking and filling them with Strawberry Buttercream and some Strawberry Jam.

I used vanilla Buttercream on the outside to cover the cake and the Unicorn hair is also vanilla just coloured. I always use a gel or a paste, as the colours are much much brighter and I always reach the perfect shades. I also used my Violet paste to make the inside purple. I attempted an ombre and came out perfectly.

It took me a couple of hours to create the horn and pipe the flowers for the Unicorn mane. I used a yellow icing for the horn, which I twisted to create the shape. I use yellow because my gold glitter spray comes out a lot nicer on top of yellow than white. I added edible glitter to the horn and stuck it into the cake using long cocktail sticks/kebab skewers.

I also bought some little icing flowers from tesco which had shades of pinks, purple and blue. I didn’t use the purple as it was more maroon/burgundy which was too dark for the flowers I piped.

I had so much fun doing this cake, as I’m not the best at Buttercream coated cakes and piping. I’m really proud of my result! And even more so that my ombre purple turned out spot on.

Below, I bought my sister a few simple, low priced birthday gifts, as the cake cost me a lot.

For a fun idea, I went on the website www.boomf.com and made a pop up gift. I chose photos of us from times we’ve spent together at concerts etc. You can add your own message to these too. The box jumps out and throws confetti everywhere. They do other gifts including marshmallows. This was ¬£5.99, slightly expensive for a paper box what throws confetti everywhere but worth the reaction (which I never even saw!!)

I bought the Unicorn Bath Bomb from www.bombcosmetics.co.uk which is called ‘I believe in unicorns’. This was ¬£2.50.

Oscars Coolers are available in most supermarkets but I actually bought this one in Aldi. I can’t remember how much for but as a gift it’s a cheap and awesome thing to give. Who doesn’t like alcohol?

I also bought her some Krispy Kreme doughnuts from Tesco for £5 and she practically ate them in one sitting.

Have a magical day!

Birthday Celebrations

Last weekend me and my family celebrated the birthday of my Grandma. She’s now 85!

I had been planning a cake for her for a couple months to get it perfect. The flavoura I chose were cherry and almond. This was such a great combination of flavour in a cake.

I bought a large white rose online as the topper. I’m not very confident in making them yet myself. So I made rose petals falling down the cake, then added pearls made out of icing.

We went out for a meal on the Sunday to The Leigh Arms. Very nice food and wonderful staff.

I bought a bottle of prosecco as I don’t drink very oftenand had about 4 glasses out of it, oops!

For the main course I had the Chicken Sunday lunch and Jay had a cheeseburger. His did come with chips, on the side.

After, we headed back to my grandma’s for coffee and cake. I was so full from my dinner but managed to eat a couple pieces. You have to have a piece of every cake at her house! Haha

She had a wonderful day, and as gifts she received some garden plants, a watch and a dinner tray. I don’t have pictures of the others! And the below is what my mum had sent me.

Thanks for reading guys! I’ll be putting another post up this weekend about another birthday and my bank holiday antics.

I hope you all have a fantastic day, fingers crossed the weather stays nice!

Peppa Pig Fun

Hey Everyone!

Hope you’ve all had the best weekend possible!

My week has been a very busy one in preparation of my neices 1St birthday yesterday! I have had the absolute joy and pleasure of making her 1St birthday cake. A Peppa Pig cake.

I decided to spread making the cake over several days as the sooner I cover the cake the fresher it will stay.

What a better way to start by making a chocolate cake! My sister-in-law requested the cake to be shaped as a 1. So I went an bought one last month from Hobby Craft which was ¬£10.

I baked the cake on Wednesday night ready to cover on Thursday. I find this a lot easier as when I put the icing over the top it has time to set in the perfect place.

The only thing I found with the cake tin is that I made 2 of them and did it in 4 layers. If I had used just the one cake it wouldn’t have looked 3D enough for the size of the board I used.

My sister-in-law had sent me a picture of a Peppa Pig cake she had found and I thought I’d use a dark pink for the icing to make the cake stand out more as the baby pink was washed out looking.

I then added all the extra details to the cake.

As you can tell I’m a very messy Baker!

I also made Peppa Pig out of icing, which was a challenge! Especially the hands!

It took me around 2 hours to get Peppa Pig how I wanted it. One of the highlights of being a perfectionist!

I added my nieces name on to the cake in baby pink icing and sprayed with silver sparkle to make it stand out.

I then added the last details to the cake with a few daisy’s around it on the cake board and then cleaned up the cake ready to take to her birthday party.

I am so proud of my cake and I’m so glad my nieces loved eating it! Haha

Incase you wondered what we bought for her birthday we got her a George pig weeble from sainsburys which was ¬£4 and a Fisher price mood toy which you spin the face and it changes the mood and makes a sound. That was from tesco for roughly ¬£15. We also paid halves on the cake with her nanna.

Thanks for reading guys! Hope you liked the cake ūüź∑

Busy Bakes

So I’ve promised I’d do more blogs and I’ve broken it already!!

I have literally had no spare time in-between Christmas and new year. All of my time had been spent doing baking and spending time with family.

So here’s a few Bakes I’ve done through these past few weeks. I have been experimenting with different flavours and I had a request of my friend to have malibu Cupcakes for her birthday!

I was so keen to try this out so I made her some successful Cupcakes. She also wanted jammy dodger ones too.

I’m not really into malibu myself and I never get the urge to eat cake when o bake for people, but, I tried these malibu ones and MY GOD!! They are so amazing! I cannot get enough. Any malibu lovers out there you won’t be able to stop!

I then made some more for her as a birthday present to her Mother-in-law. I then added extra desicated coconut to the top of hers so they were slightly different.

I have also had a last minute 21st birthday cake to do as well. This was just last week too. The girls mother had wanted a last minute 2 tier cake doing as her daughters friend was going to bake one but her oven broke. I stepped in and helped as I personally wouldn’t like to have no cake on my birthday.

The cake isn’t perfect I know, but I absolutely HATE fondant icing!! I’m slowly getting better with bigger cakes now and I seriously love a challenge!

The most important thing is that the customer said it was amazing and all her friends asked at the party who made it.

I’ve also made dinosaur Cupcakes for my friends step daughter. This was a disaster and I can’t stress it enough! The worst colouring I have ever used is green! I despise the stuff now!

The green colouring made my icing so runny, but it felt like it was pipeable. It struggled to stay in the shape I piped so I let it mould to a flat surface and stuck the dinosaur moulds of icing in. I woke up the next morning to the green icing pouring off the Cupcakes and into the box. Disaster!

So, I’m never using it again! I managed to get a picture of them before the green ones were completely ruined. On the plus side my friends 14 year old step daughter absolutely loved them!

I thought by January that all the cakes would die down but it’s managed to puck itself up again and I’ve been baking every week since the beginning of December.

I’ve got a big order of 40 Cupcakes to do for a salons 1st anniversary in the beginning of February. All of these need a hairdressing theme. Eek!!

Best get my bake on!
