Mother’s Day 2018

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope everyone’s mums enjoyed their Mother’s Day on Sunday. (UK)

Sunday was a day well spent for us 3. We very rarely manage to have a sit down meal together with everyone’s busy days and overlapping shifts at work.

My mum made us the best Lamb Roast I’ve ever had. It was so gorgeous, it may as well of been an all you can eat Roast. 10 out of 10.

We had the most gorgeous sparkling wine from Aldi with it.

I had been extremely busy all week making mother’s day cupcakes I hadn’t even had time to make my own mother some!

We spent the afternoon with the rest of the family eating cake and sipping cups of tea.

I treated my mum and grandma to a trip to the theatre in a couple of weeks to see “My Fair Lady”

They’re both excited to watch it!

Hen Do – 1st March 2018

Hey guys!

So I planned a hen do for my friend before she gets married soon! I’ve got to say event planning is so stressful yet I completely LOVE it!

We went out for a meal, so everyone could get to know each other without feeling under pressure and brought out the games etc later on when the pub was dying down a bit.

I set the table up with a ‘Bride to Be’ sign (amazon), which came with a sash and bought a personalised balloon with the date on from a local shop.

I created another personal touch that Imogen could keep. I used an empty prosecco bottle. Yes, I drank the whole thing first.

I stuck some gold text on it which I bought from Hobby Craft. And I wrote underneath the date. I added in some lights for an even better touch and everyone signed the bottle after.

I made some personalised cupcakes, another perfect gesture. These were given out to all the people who came.

Hen do selfie sticks (amazon) are also such a perfect idea to get everyone to mingle with each other.

We had plenty of games, which we all enjoyed! Had such a laugh and a great night!

Easter!

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great, long easter weekend.

What did everyone get up to?

Easter is probably my favourite holiday with all the pretty flowers and baby animals around! The sun starts to perk up a bit and makes you feel more energised.

I’ve spent most of the holiday baking and eating. My mum and nan flew over to Germany to the rest of my family, while I stayed here with Jay.

I tried to decorate the house as much a possible but eventually it was only one or two things with being busy baking. I added some colour by buying some tulips.

You can’t not have any tulips at easter.

On Friday I spent most of the day baking and washing clothes. We had a chilled day and then went out for a curry! My favourite food. I always go for Chicken Tikka Masala because the flavours are amazing!

Saturday morning I spent the day baking again! It was a lovely morning so I decided go take a break and have some hot cross buns out in the garden.

I had run a cupcake giveaway on my Facebook page for easter and drew the winner on the Friday. The winner was my old best friend and she absolutely loved the cakes.

They were all different flavours;

Vanilla, White chocolate and Raspberry, Strawberry and vanilla, chocolate Fudge, Malteser and Carrot Cake.

I made a Carrot Cake loaf (no picture) to take to my aunties on the Sunday which was decorated with Cream Cheese Frosting and daisies.

I attempted to make a Malteser cake until I forgot to add malt flavouring to the icing! It was just a quick an easy cake to make so I gave most of it out to family and friends.

There was an awful lot of cake I made so I took a few in to work so I didn’t become a pig haha.

Easter is my fave time to make cakes because of all the bright colours.

I bought my nieces some easter chocolate from Aldi for easter and took them round to Jay’s mums for them. How cute are they?!

On the Sunday, me and Jay went to my aunties for dinner. I didn’t manage to take any pictures, sorry!

We had a homemade minestrone soup with garlic bread to start. For the main we had a turkey joint with veg and toasties. Then for the dessert we had white chocolate and passionfruit ice-cream.

A while later we watched part of the grand prix and had some Carrot Cake and then went home about half 4.

Again, on Monday I didn’t take any pictures apart from a selfie. Oops. But we went to the Legs of Man to celebrate my sister getting a new job. We ate in the restaurant, which is quiet, but a nice atmosphere.

The Legs of Man is a lovely restaurant, perfect for special occasions as it’s slightly higher in price and more ‘posh’. You order your mains and when they are served the waiters bring round the potatoes and veg. Then you choose what you want and how much.

We had a 3 course meal, so for starter I had a melon platter. There was mixed fruit around a melon fan.

Me and Jay had a Chicken Romany. Chicken stuffed with cheese and ham, covered in a mushroom and pepper sauce.

For dessert I had a tiramasu and Jay had a Chocolate Fudge cake. There is usually a trolly in the corner of the room that they have displayed with all the desserts on.

So my whole Easter weekend was spent eating like a pig haha!

After Easter was finished, I finally had a bit of chocolate.

Cheaper than egg and spoons by cadbury’s and Aldi has just as nice chocolate!

I also bought myself an egg from there that I still haven’t eaten. Its just too pretty!

Hope you all had a good easter weekend! And everyone indulged in yummy chocolate.

Thanks for reading.

Frantic February

Hi Everyone!

We’re finally out of January! Yes, I know I’m a bit late but these past 2 weeks have been hectic for me! I’ve kept pushing my blog back after being so exhausted from big Bakes and being very busy in my full time job.

Last week I had a challenge of making a two Tier Marvel Cake for somebody. I had an absolute nightmare!

The cake was chocolate tier and vanilla Sponge tier.

Baking it was fine, but as you may know I absolutely HATE royal icing!! I always manage to do it though.

At first, I covered the bottom cake with white icing. That was easy. Then I went to cover the top cake in the blue icing. The first time I covered it the icing ripped and had a huge hole in the back of it. Great. So.. then I did it again with a new pack of blue icing. Same thing happened again! I always use renshaw icing as the colours are prefect. But for the 3rd go I used tesco own new blue icing. It was manageable but still not perfect.

So then I began decorating over the top. I had to include superman, captain America, spiderman and batman. I found it really tricky using a stencil to cut out little tiny pieces from the superman logo. But I managed it. This cake again, was another one I had never done before.

Trying to measure and cut the right size logo for the cake was hard too! I needed everything to be as symmetrical as possible.

I wasn’t 100% happy with the cake but for my first attempt I think I’ve done pretty well.

I started making cakes for other people because I like seeing other people’s faces when I’m done. Some people you get who don’t really appreciate your time and effort to which knocks your confidence! But I have quite a few people who compliment me for my cakes and that’s what picks me back up again!

Today I have just finished off 40 Cupcakes (my biggest job yet) for a lovely customers mum. Its their salons 1st anniversary of opening this weekend. My pictures aren’t the best as I have finished them today.

The little hairdressing Toppers were quite difficult even though I used a mould. Some of them had really thin parts which just kept braking off so I used the ones which kept the best shape.

The Cupcakes were 2 flavours. Vanilla and Chocolate Fudge. 20 of each.

I hope you liked my post!

It’s time for me to chill out ready for overtime tomorrow! Boo
Thanks for reading everyone! Have a great weekend.

Busy Bakes

So I’ve promised I’d do more blogs and I’ve broken it already!!

I have literally had no spare time in-between Christmas and new year. All of my time had been spent doing baking and spending time with family.

So here’s a few Bakes I’ve done through these past few weeks. I have been experimenting with different flavours and I had a request of my friend to have malibu Cupcakes for her birthday!

I was so keen to try this out so I made her some successful Cupcakes. She also wanted jammy dodger ones too.

I’m not really into malibu myself and I never get the urge to eat cake when o bake for people, but, I tried these malibu ones and MY GOD!! They are so amazing! I cannot get enough. Any malibu lovers out there you won’t be able to stop!

I then made some more for her as a birthday present to her Mother-in-law. I then added extra desicated coconut to the top of hers so they were slightly different.

I have also had a last minute 21st birthday cake to do as well. This was just last week too. The girls mother had wanted a last minute 2 tier cake doing as her daughters friend was going to bake one but her oven broke. I stepped in and helped as I personally wouldn’t like to have no cake on my birthday.

The cake isn’t perfect I know, but I absolutely HATE fondant icing!! I’m slowly getting better with bigger cakes now and I seriously love a challenge!

The most important thing is that the customer said it was amazing and all her friends asked at the party who made it.

I’ve also made dinosaur Cupcakes for my friends step daughter. This was a disaster and I can’t stress it enough! The worst colouring I have ever used is green! I despise the stuff now!

The green colouring made my icing so runny, but it felt like it was pipeable. It struggled to stay in the shape I piped so I let it mould to a flat surface and stuck the dinosaur moulds of icing in. I woke up the next morning to the green icing pouring off the Cupcakes and into the box. Disaster!

So, I’m never using it again! I managed to get a picture of them before the green ones were completely ruined. On the plus side my friends 14 year old step daughter absolutely loved them!

I thought by January that all the cakes would die down but it’s managed to puck itself up again and I’ve been baking every week since the beginning of December.

I’ve got a big order of 40 Cupcakes to do for a salons 1st anniversary in the beginning of February. All of these need a hairdressing theme. Eek!!

Best get my bake on!

Hello October 🍁

Although it may be bitter cold outside the orange and red leaves are starting to show.

October is the start of my favourite part of the year! Orange is one of my favourite colours and the best fashion is in autumn. Saying that, I think it’s time for a winter shop!

So my weekend has consisted of keeping snug, eating domino’s and drinking hot chocolate! Yum.

My whole Saturday was spent making Cupcakes and chocolate crunch. Considering I’m on a diet this was very hard not to eat! I may have sneaked a piece or two.

I took a visit to my nan’s before she flies out tonight to see her sister. I took her a few yummy treats and helped to weigh her suitcase.

Hope she has the best time away and I will see her again in 6 weeks with her sister. This year we get to spend Christmas with her too and she’s also here for her birthday.

I have lots of celebrations coming up from now until the end if March. I’m going to be a very busy Baker!

Hope you have all had a good weekend!

I’m feeling 22…

My birthday weekend has come and gone so fast! Another year older! 😔

Porky over here has spent the past week eating and drinking, I’m so ready for a diet now!!

I started off my birthday going out for tea with my cousin before she went back to uni.

We went to a local restaurant for some drinks and cocktails.

As a birthday treat to myself I got my nails done.

On Friday I went on a spa day, a gift off my mum. We spent the say at The Cottons Hotel and Spa, where I enjoyed a lovely relaxing full body massage. We had full use of the spa facilities; pool, sauna and Jacuzzis indoor and outdoor. Our package also included an afternoon tea.

On Saturday I spent half the day in the pub watching Manchester United in the Derby!

After unwrapping all presents first! I’ve been absolutely spoilt by my man once again!

I’ve been spoilt by my friends and family too. Really don’t know what I do to deserve this!

Today I’ve had family round for more birthday celebrations. Managed to finally open my 1.5litre prosecco!

Made myself birthday Cupcakes for everyone and then we had a small buffet in the early evening.

Safe to say I’m absolutely shattered now!

Thank you for reading guys 🙂 Hope you all had a lovely weekend!
Goodnight x

Zone of Comfort

Hi guys!

I know I haven’t posted for a while, I apologise! But today I want to share with you my new project and the struggles.

So, I set up a Facebook page called “T-Cakes” I sort of want to create my own business. Obviously cakes!! But for the time being I have set up a page for my non-profit-making cake business (hopefully for the time being)

At first I thought.. Yeah! Let’s go for it stepping out my comfort zone and putting myself out there as a cake maker.

I had seen loads of people posting in those for sale pages about being let down by other people. To me, a birthday cake is special and always essential! So, i got my idea from that.

Personalised Cakes for a Birthday Boy

So, I set up my page and created myself a little logo for my profile picture and didn’t invite anyone to like it until it was perfectly set up.

I published my page later on that night and I got some great hits! Likes after likes and comments not so much. I’ve been trying to attract some customers nearer my area with pictures of cakes I have made etc.

Minnie Mouse Inspired
Lemon Drizzle

With my business being cake based, I’m finding it hard to attract the customers in. I’ve had good statistics of who has seen the posts and pictures but not many people have been enquiring. I mean I know I have just started off booking people in, I just thought people may have questions. For example; Do I make gluten free cakes?

Haribo Cupcakes

Tonight, I have thought of an idea to attract people to definitely want to be more involved. I uploaded a post asking if anyone was interested in participating in a competition. This included winning 4 free Cupcakes.

Baby Shower Cupcakes
Baby Shower Cake

I thought with the post including the word free, that most people would be like a swarm of flies on a cats dinner. Pardon the disgusting phrase haha!

Anyway, the post didn’t get so many people into it. The competition isn’t official I just wanted an idea of who would be interested. A few people commented but not as many as I’d hoped.

This has all got me a little down at the moment as it’s completely knocked my confidence. 😔 I am usually a creative person, but I can’t think of much else to get there attention to start it off.
Has anyone got any ideas that they wouldn’t mind sharing with me? All will be appreciated!
Thank you Guys x

Hope you’ve had a wonderful day.
